Launching our latest Early Careers Programme
In a competitive entry-level jobs market, getting your career started is even more challenging when you don’t have the connections, insight or support you need. The GoodWork Programme aims to empower young people with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to navigate their career journey successfully.
In September, we launched our latest Early Careers Programme with a two-week induction focused on developing transferable skills, confidence and understanding of the world of work. Our programme is designed to align with employers’ needs: from soft skills development to industry-specific knowledge, participants are prepared for success.
Across two weeks, we covered a huge range of skills, including:
Ideation and complex problem-solving
Communication, presenting and storytelling
Self-advocacy
Personal impact and professional behaviours
Using key tools for work
Creating a great CV
Each participant also worked on a group project, coming up with a solution to a specific challenge around the impact of social media on young people. They developed a product or service to help mitigate the impact and presented these on the final day of the programme to an audience of supporters.
Following the programme launch, we’re continuing to work one-to-one with the young people on the programme as they transition into work. Each young person has been assigned an experienced mentor from our brilliant volunteer network, as well as getting direct employment support from the GoodWork team and continued access to events, workshops and opportunities.
It’s been a great start to what we know will be an exciting six months for everyone!
